Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme

River Aire

In 2022 Leeds City Council appointed Carter Jonas to act as their advisor for compensation arising from Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme.

The scheme, due to complete Spring 2024, is delivering protection to over 1000 homes and 474 businesses along a 14km stretch of the river Aire between Leeds Station to Apperley Bridge in Bradford.

Affected parties range from residents to government bodies. Claims are received and managed by Carter Jonas across multiple asset classes (land and buildings) including commercial, office, retail, leisure, industrial, residential, education and rural.

Carter Jonas is advising the Council on compensation due, managing the claimant process including negotiation of interim and final claims plus liaison with both the Council and their main contractor, BMMjv (Bam Nuttall Ltd and Mott MacDonald joint venture), in regards to options/opportunities to mitigate.

The instruction utilises not only Carter Jonas specialist Compensation and Water Resources Act knowledge, but also the companies sector expertise.

Mark Garford, principal engineer at flood defence delivery team says:

On such a large project it is particularly important that compensation claims are managed effectively and in a timely manner. Carter Jonas have been brilliant at this and making sure that we are spending public money wisely.
