Natural capital
Natural capital has the potential to offer landowners a number of ways to generate income by taking steps to improve the environment.
Overview
Putting land into an environmental scheme may not always be the best use of land, financially or from a wider strategic perspective. Carter Jonas works with landowners to understand their requirements and vision for their estate and can advise on the right land use to match client expectations.
As the markets evolve, new legislation and regulation emerge, we are looking to develop new products for these markets and keeping a close eye on how this will affect our clients across all sectors and are advising appropriately.
Carter Jonas, has a dedicated nationwide team of Natural Capital experts as well as experts in both rural land management and planning and development consultancy, as well as valuation, is well placed to help both landowners and developers in navigating the intricacies of the various sources of income from natural capital both from the private and public sector.
Our natural capital services
Working with organisations creating and managing natural capital assets, as well as those that require units and other ecosystem services, we offer strategic, practical and unbiased advice that is based on technical knowledge and business acumen.
Strategic, technical & tactical natural capital advice
We work with businesses of all types and sizes – from developers and housebuilders, to investors, corporates and non-for-profit organisations – helping them identify opportunities in natural capital, as well navigating constraints in the evolving natural capital marketplace.
Alongside the strategic advice, we also advise on the price and quality of environmental units/credits, helping organisations achieve their objectives, including ESG and sustainability.
Biodiversity net gain
On behalf of landowners and other owners of habitat banks, we work throughout the process – advising on the set up and management of the banks, as well as the marketing and sale of the units generated.
For developers, we can identify and source appropriate biodiversity units to meet BNG requirements.
Phosphate and nutrient neutrality
Where businesses and landowners are able to reduce nutrients, including phosphates, we can market and sell credits to developers looking to offset their projects’ impact on water bodies.
On the other side, we also work with developers in sourcing suitable credits to facilitate development.
