Rembrandt House is a striking early twentieth century factory building fronting the site, with a range of poor value commercial buildings behind. Carter Jonas’s proposal is to retain Rembrandt House for offices and create a new residential development behind.
New town-houses will continue the strips of residential urban grain that exist in the surrounding context, with new apartments over 5 storeys, sitting adjacent to Rembrandt House. The development will maximise active frontage to all new and existing streets and create concealed car parking to ensure that CABE’s Manual for Streets can be followed and a pedestrian friendly “Homezone” created.
